Post 27 ~ 'Life in London – The Poem'

Richa … here is the poem I read, as requested by you. It is about the emotions one goes through on being far away from India, in UK, in US … anywhere in the world. This poem of mine is dedicated to all the NRIs all across the globe.

  Mitti ki khusboo ho

Ya samose ka swad

Mohalle ki masti ho

Ya apno ka saath

Chai ki chuskiyan ya phir

Laddoo ki mithas

Rickshaw ka bhopu  ya

Mandir ki ghanti ki aawaz

Nahin yahan kuch bhi

Sirf  ek yaad

Mera vatan hai hi kuch nirala

Rangeela, raseela aur ‘Azaad’!

tube ki qaid mein apni scooty yaad aati hai

gali mein khele cricket ki masti aaj rula jaati hai

bahot hua frozen rotiyon ka atyachar

thande sandwiches khane ko hum hai lachar

suraj ki shakal dekhe jaise sadiyan beeti

kahan gayi woh meri dhoop meethi meethi

Sapno ki daud mein  peeche chuti hai  jindagi

Gumsum si hai ye, kuch mujhse ruthi ruthi

Is berang si jindagi mein

kyun na  rang bhar dein jara

Is maayusi ko saath milkar

Kyun na door kar dein hum bhala

is  tanha safar ko banakar MMUK ka karwan

aao  nache aur gaa le khushiyon ka gaana

Parivaar anjaanon  se bhi ban sakta hai

Aao milkar likhe ek naya fasana!!!

  1. Hi Chandni,

Although I have never heard your voice, but while reading this poem I was creating your voice in my mind. I was reading the words and the same was reciting by your bold and brazen voice in my mind.

I am sure, you would have recited it in UK forum in the same manner. I don’t know why but it is for the first time that I have imagined your voice and the first two words that has come to mind are ‘bold and brazen’.

So, clap clap clap for the poem. :)

  2. I would like to ask a question regarding poems.

Is it a mandatory charecterstic of a poem (Hindi/English) that it should end with a rhyme.

For eg: Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are.

Both the lines are producing rhyme of “R”

When I wrote my first poem then I got this feedback that a poem whether Hindi or English should produce a rhyme in the end otherwise it is just a collection of thoughts. Again I can see the rhyme in your Hindi poem.
